About Matthew

Matthew J Dowden started on a path to become a lawyer, studying at University for 4 years. However, on seeing an old clip of a magician whilst at law school, he developed a passion for magic which quickly overtook everything else.

Matthew could often be seen in the Library studying hard, but unlike his fellow students who were learning the law, Matthew was studying magic books, practicing sleight of hand and learning how to pick pockets...for entertainment purposes of course. Having graduated in 2002 with Honours, Matthew realised that doing magic as a hobby wasn't enough and decided to perform full time, leaving the law behind.

Since then Matthew has performed all over the world including the world famous “Magic Castle” in Hollywood, and regularly performs for royalty including a recent private show for Prince Harry. He has brought out 3 best selling instructional DVDs for Magicians, collaborated on many more, lectured all over the UK and has appeared on the front cover of Europe's largest Magic Magazine “Magicseen” with the simple tag line “your favourite new magician”.

Unlike other magicians, Matthew's influences lie more in magicians of the past such as Fred Kaps and past masters of show business such as Dean Martin and the Rat Pack. Matthew also likes to perform classic magic, believing that classics are classics for a reason and that audiences shouldn't be deprived of seeing them. In fact, Matthew's ultimate dream is to bring classic entertainment to modern audiences.
