Party Magician

Apart from wedding magic one of the most popular uses for a magician is at a party. I perform at hundreds of events ranging from wedding anniversaries to birthday parties. Although I don't perform at children's birthday parties, I get enquiries from people who are looking to celebrate anything from an 18th to an 80th birthday.

The great thing about magic as a form of entertainment is that it appeals to such a huge range of people. Also with party magic or mix and mingle magic it works around you. Wherever your guests are, I approach groups of people and entertain them, whether they are stood chatting with drinks or sat at tables enjoying a buffet meal.

Mixing different forms of entertainment

As a general rule, if you are having a DJ or band as well as a party magician, it is better to allow time for the magic before the music starts. Background music is fine but having loud music playing while the magician is performing isn't the best way to get the most out of the magic. Certainly in my case there is a lot of comedy and I tend to gather people together into slightly larger groups which helps to build a great atmosphere. However, if people can't really hear me then their enjoyment of the performance isn't as good and if you are paying good money for entertainment it is best to get the most out of it.

Pre-Dinner Drinks or Table Magic?

Sometimes when I am asked to perform at an event as a corporate magician or for a charity dinner, I am asked to perform mix and mingle magic during the pre-dinner drinks and then table hopping magic during the dinner itself. I generally advise people that the magic tends to have more impact if performed at either the drinks OR the dinner. However, if you would like both this is still possible.

Cabaret Magic

Something that I offer people is a short spot of cabaret magic at the end of a dinner or party. The nice thing about this is that by this point everyone has seen me performing close up magic around the room as has got to know me. This has also given me a chance to see who would be an ideal volunteer. A spot of cabaret magic can really add something extra to your event and means that the magical performance finishes on a high.

After-Dinner Magic

If you are having a small group of people at your party or event, mix and mingle magic is sometimes not the best option. The reason for this is that as soon as I start performing, everyone starts to watch at the same time. In these situations it is best to have a single after-dinner style magic show. This can be anything from a 30 minute to 45 minute spot, which involves sleight of hand, audience participation and lots of comedy. I have performed this kind of magic show in homes, function rooms and also palaces for royalty.
